Always a fun filled day after Christmas as we celebrate Eric’s Grandad’s birthday. This year being the big 90!

Albert played the piano for our enjoyment as the rest of us ran around the house preparing for the party.

Lyle & Betty prepared an incredible dinner for all of us. And after dinner we enjoyed a round of Jack Horner poems. (For those of you who don’t know what that is…it’s an old Blanchard family tradition. Gifts are wrapped and hidden in a centerpiece for each guest. Your name is written on a piece of paper, attached to a string, which is tied to your present – everyone pulls their gift at the same time. Then you go in order of oldest to youngest around the table to open your gift. But first, you have to read a poem that has been written to give hints as to what it is. Then you must guess what it is. Then you can open it. It’s really so much fun.)

We had delicious cupcakes with homemade icing for dessert. I was in charge of the sprinkles on top. Then onto birthday presents.

The grandkids gave Albert a photo album from our Family Reunion in Maine this summer. And Mary (Eric’s sister) made a DVD of the footage from the trip, including the songs we each wrote and performed for Albert and Shirley at the reunion.

What a crazy family! I’m so proud to be one of them.

This year was a wonderful Christmas! Great time with both of our families.

It was a retro Christmas for Eric. He got the original Nintendo with sweet games like Mike Tyson’s Puch Out, Tecmo Super Bowl, Tetris, and Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt. Oh yes, the gun was included. He also got some Cub CDs he’s been looking for since high school. He also got a pair of Heely, as he’s been jealous that they didn’t have those when he was a kid. I’m a little concerned about him falling and hurting himself though – not my best idea.

I made a book for Eric of our trip to Europe last September. And he clearly was thinking of our trip too, as he got me a CD of French music – which I fell in love with during our time in Paris.

It was a baby-on-the-way Christmas for me. We got our stroller, a Bugaboo Bee, from my parents, and our crib & accessories from Eric’s parents. She’s already spoiled. Eric got me the Nordstrom Cafe cookbook which reveals the tomato soup recipe that they serve there – my one silly pregnancy craving. Now I can make it at home. So good!

Mary and Corey, and Eric’s Aunt Mary pitched in to get us a Flip video camera. Light as a feather and fits in a pocket. You can upload to youtube with one click of a button. This way I can continue to add video clips to my blog to keep everyone informed of our daughters latest developments. I apologize in advance if I go crazy with this.

We surprised everyone by announcing our little girl’s name. I sewed her name onto a stocking for both of our mom’s to open on Christmas morning. It was very fun to share with everyone…Emily Noelle Johnson.

We enjoyed our traditional Chinese dinner on Christmas night. 4 years now. It was delicious, and no dishes!

Eric and I spent 4 days at my parents little beach house in Laguna, to celebrate a “babymoon” of sorts. We had a wonderful time together. Mostly relaxing, walking on the beach, playing Sequence, a little bocce, eating, reading – all the good vacation to-dos. We also enjoyed beautiful weather and spectacular sunsets.

I gave Eric a book called Strong Fathers Strong Daughters, by Meg Meeker, which he’s really enjoying. It prompted all sorts of new conversations. Moving from pregnancy, labor and delivery talks to the things that really matter – our values, roles, and plans for raising our little girl.

It was great to be away for a few days, just to enjoy eachother.
