Just about done. We have successfully turned my office/storage/catch all into a nursery/work station. I’m very pleased with the outcome. A couple more finishing touches, but totally operable as baby’s room. A special thank you to my dear husband for moving the furniture more times than necessary, my sister for forcing me to throw away the paper scraps from jobs I finished three years ago, and my mother-in-law for “helping” me to make the bedding. And to all my dear friends who gifted us with all this great stuff.
Lyle gave Eric the day off of work so that we could properly celebrate him and his birth. We started the day by sleeping extra long – a birthday essential. Eric’s first round of gifts were 3 CDs individually wrapped, which were on time release to open each time we got into the car. His first CD – the Juno soundtrack. We giggled at the lyrics of the Moldy Peaches on our drive to Molly’s Country Kitchen for a good, hearty birthday breakfast. Eric stuck with the staples: eggs, bacon, toast, and hashbrowns, while I opted for french toast – my second time this week. We got our suckers to go before heading to the theater for a mini movie marathon.
Back in the car, Eric opened his second CD – the Once Soundtrack. If you haven’t seen this movie, we highly recommend it. This one was a big hit. Before getting to the movie theater we stopped at CVS for some candy. Oh darn…they only had the jumbo box of Junior Mints, I had no other choice. At the theater we saw Vantage Point and Fool’s Gold. Both very entertaining, and totally unrealistic – great times.
Back in the car for our drive home Eric opened the new Jack Johnson CD. We have enjoyed it since, but at the time we hadn’t gotten enough of the Once Soundtrack so we kept it in.
That night we had the Wheelers over for an Enchilada dinner, lots of Nintendo, and birthday cake: Classic yellow with chocolate frosting & 29 candles! More celebrations to come as we’ll be with my family next Tuesday – Denny’s cooking, it’s sure to be a hit – then a joint birthday celebration with Eric and Lyle next Sunday. Plus birthday cake every night to prolong the festivities.
Next year, for his 30th, Eric has requested an American Gladiators themed birthday party. I’m not sure yet how I’m going to pull this off, but he’s given me over a year to plan so it’d better be amazing. Any ideas out there? Costumes? Jousting sticks?
I had my first baby shower this weekend. My sister has been planning this day since we told her that we were expecting, so of course it was planned, decorated and executed to perfection. I felt so loved and cared for by each of my friends. Not to mention that little Em got hooked up with all sorts of great gadgets and adorable outfits. Now at 35 weeks, I was starting to feel a little anxious about not having anything to care for our child! So a beautiful day of love, laughter and itsy bitsy gifts was just what I was needing.
Thank you dear friends for coming and showering me. And thank you Brookie for being such a great sister and aunt.
