Emily and I made an appearance at Eric’s soccer game today. He’s been playing with the same group of guys in a league for the past 3 years. They’re pretty awesome, today they won 2-1. Emily was very proud of her dad.

Then tonight Eric joined a group of guys for a “short shorts” basketball game. Eric was a little too shy to show off his thighs at the first game – maybe next time.

Emily is one month and changing every day. She’s now 9 1/2 pounds, 21 inches. She spends about an hour awake between each meal, which gives us lots of time to see her ever changing expressions and occasionally she graces us with big smiles – usually just before she spits up. We just switched her from our room into her own crib, which she’s loving. We were a little sad, but her first night in there she let us sleep for a full 5 hours so no complaints.

Lately she’s enjoying:

• Blowing Bubbles

• Doing the yoga Cobra pose

• Looking at lights

• Her pacifier

• Going for drives in her car seat

• Kisses from her cousins

• When Eric tickles her face

• Her sling – once she’s in (she hates getting in)

• Going for walks on the Central Paseo

• Warm Baths

• Taking naps on my tummy, while I sing a variety of Disney movie theme songs (maybe just I’m enjoying that part)

We’re loving every second with our daughter. It’s so wild to think a whole month has already passed with her. We’re torn on whether we want her to grow or just stay like this forever. I hear it just keeps getting better, but so far it’s pretty great. We’re in for quite an adventure I’m sure.

Thank goodness for tummy time. Little One loves her pink fluffy blanket from her Aunt Brookie. She naps here for at least an hour a day, which gives me time to do things like shower, eat, and update my blog.

We have been so spoiled! Our friends have been delivering meals for us for the past 4 weeks! It has been amazing and we’ve been eating like royalty. It is coming to a close now, and I’m back in the kitchen.

Thank you dear friends for your generous contributions to our hunger. If anyone has leftovers in their fridge, feel free to send them our way!

Saturday we hung out with our friends Brandon and Sara. We had met them in our birthing class – they were also expecting a little girl, in March, at the same hospital, with the same midwife. They have since become dear friends.

Their daughter, Bailey, was born on March 15th, 3 days before Emily. They were even delivered in the same room! We’re pretty sure they’re going to be best friends.

This weekend, our girls had their first hang time. We walked to a little spot called Rutebegorz in T-Town (a Bridgman favorite) for dinner and apple pie. Then we propped the girls up and made them wrestle. Then the adults got in a great game of Sequence – Sara and I won twice!

Very fun night.

Emily’s umbilical cord fell off, so she got her first bath today! She loved the cozy warm water, but basically hated getting out being all wet and cold. Dad bundled her up real quick in her cutie pie hoodie towel, and she was happy again.

After arriving home from our hospital stay I enjoyed a long shower, started a hefty load of laundry, ate some good food, and took a nap with my daughter on the couch while Eric watched the Final Four games…we’re all loving being home again.

All of her results came back negative today – Praise the Lord! She finished up her antibiotics, we got some free diapers, enjoyed our last hospital meal, packed up and are headed home.

Thank you for your prayers and encouragement.

Our little champ

On Wednesday I discovered a red swollen patch on Emily’s chest. We went to see her pediatrician, who sent us to the ER at Mission Hospital. After a series of labwork, they admitted her to CHOC at the hospital and we’re currently on day 3 of our stay.

She has developed an infection, and since she’s just so darn little, they’re taking it very seriously and treating it aggressively with IV antibiotics.

A very emotional time for brand new parents, but we’ve gotten all good results so far. We will for sure be here another day until all of her cultures come back negative, in the meantime we appreciate everyone’s prayers for a quick recovery for her little body.
