We headed out to the desert again, this time with my family, for a fun filled family weekend. It was pushing 110 degrees while we were there, so Emily stayed in the house (thank goodness for baby monitors) while Eric and I floated on our rafts and played with our niece and nephew in the pool. Dad made margaritas (a little too strong for him, he had to take a nap immediately following), we played Apples to Apples, went out for dinner at Babes, saw Wall•E, we ate a lot of Oreos, I started a new book…It was very relaxing. Good times with the fam.

For those of you who were concerned…we made it home without getting lost. Hooray!

Today we celebrated my 28th birthday. Betty & Lyle watched Emily, and Eric took me out for sushi at Riptide. We got there in time for happy hour, when sushi is only $1 per piece, so it gave us the opportunity to try a variety. We wanted to order a lot so that we could get one of the pretty overflowing plates – accomplished! Everything was so delicious.

Eric surprised me with a new necklace, which he had made by our favorite jeweler, Angelo! He also got me Juno (which is in my top 10), a super cute Yankee Shirt (a girly version), and tickets to the Yankee/Angels game in August. His dad always gets tickets for he and Eric, but this year his dad will be in Maine, so he gave them to Eric and Eric’s taking me! Baseball games in the summer are super sexy dates. From sneaking in our Costco pack of Peanuts, to singing Take me Out to the Ballgame, it’s like an American Classic evening. It’s a Friday night too, which means it will end with fireworks.

A lot of people don’t like getting older. But the way I see it, each year I’m (hopefully) a little wiser, I’ve accomplished more, I’ve had more fun, there’s more money in my 401(k) :) . And this year all the more…I’ve gained a new title of “mom” and life has never felt richer. Hooray for 28! Keep em coming.

Today is Emily’s 3 month birthday. She is just the most delightful baby, often entertaining us with her smiles and coos. Today was not one of those days. Today was more of an introspective day – which I feel her portrait accurately represents. Despite her serious attitude she was very cooperative in getting her pictures taken.

It wasn’t until the very end that she gave me this face, saying “Ok, no more pictures please”.

Then this face, saying “No seriously, get that camera out of my face”.

She’s an excellent communicator.

Remember the days when a happy birthday meant balloons & cake…apparently those days are over. Emily and I attended my niece, Camryn’s, 4th birthday party today at Scooter’s Jungle. Basically a kids paradise. She made out like a bandit getting an absurd amount of gifts, including a webkins (I still don’t know what this is) which was a huge deal. They had pizza and cake and bounced on the ginormous bounce house/slide for 2 hours. It was quite an event, even Emily had fun.

Then, Camy got to have a birthday lunch with the Disney Princesses. Spend the afternoon at Disneyland. And to top it all off they put on a firework show just for her birthday (wink wink).

Ahh, to be 4 again!

A video celebrating the highlights of a new dad and his daughter…enjoy!

My niece, Camryn, had her first dance recital this weekend. Glitter, Curlers, Make-up, Costumes…a little girl’s dream come true. She did a fantastic job in her performance and smiled the whole way through. After being the constant cheerleader for her brother’s events (soccer, t-ball, basketball) for the past two years, it was finally her time to shine. She was so proud to have everyone there to see her. My sister got her a bouquet of two dozen pink roses which she refused to put down, and pleaded to stay in her costume when we went out to dinner afterward.

I dressed Emily in her tutu and ballet shoes for the occasion, in honor of her cousin’s big night.

Today is Eric’s mom’s birthday. She has been on the East Coast for 4 weeks now, visiting her parents and helping them make the move from New Jersey to their cottages in Maine for the summer. 4 weeks away from her first grandbaby and she’s missing her terribly.

Happy Birthday Bamie! Here’s a video shout out with some of Emily’s latest footage to help you through your last week away. We look forward to seeing you next weekend.

Our nephew, Caeden, graduated from Kindergarten at Umaña today. He was responsible for reciting the pledge to the Bible – he did an excellent job. He got the award for Best Reader, and the Fruit of the Spirit award for his Joyfulness. Such a cool kid. We were so proud of him today.

We started birthday month with my dad’s birthday at Maggiano’s in Costa Mesa. My dad is always the cook for our family so it was good to go out in celebration of his birthday so that he could be served for a change. Maggiano’s did not disapoint. We ordered family style…after getting through the first course of 5 incredible appetizers Eric learned that there were 2 more courses to come. His first time, a rookie mistake. He also called the prosciutto “bacon”, and the rigatoni “penne” – he was teased ruthlessly by my Italian family. “Whitey!”

Emily had a wonderful time being passed from person to person. When Eric and I weren’t holding her and admiring her, we were admiring her from a distance. We’re pretty smitten.

A great time with the fam, celebrating my dad…we were all full into breakfast the next morning.
