We had a great night of fun with Jen and Jeremy Wheeler last night. After we put our girlies to bed, Jen busted out some crazy delicious brownies with Peanut Butter cups baked in. Fantasmic! A great way to kick off a late night.
In our days of DINKdom, we used to pull regular late-nighters with the Wheelers to pour ourselves into a healthy competition of gaming (the old school kind, not the digitally enhanced). It started with Settlers of Catan, then Hearts, then Kanasta, then Ice Hockey, then Sequence. Then kiddos came on the scene, causing our competitive streak to be put on hold temporarily. But we’re back, as of last night, with a new card game called “I’ll Buy It”.
So much fun! Eric and Jeremy were largely competing over who would come in last! Who cares about winning…they find joy in competing over things that don’t even matter. For the record, I won and Jeremy came in last.
Early in the evening Eric got a sudden craving for a Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell. None of us had had one in years, so we called Taco Bell to be sure they still made them. After being transferred to the manager (fast food employees, go figure) it was confirmed that they still made them. He decided not to go get one but continue to talk about it all night long.
Around 11:30pm, we finished our game, packed up the daughter and headed home. But not until we made a slight detour to Taco Bell for the long craved meal. After getting home and putting Emily down we enjoyed our Mexican Pizza (spork and all) and a game, or 4, of Dr. Mario. Eric beat me every time.
Jeremy called today, to let us know that they got Mexican Pizzas for lunch today.
When Eric got home from work, I told him our problem about Emily’s boredom. Eric took it very seriously and made every attempt to cure her of this state of humdrum.
He succeeded!
Nice work sweetheart.
Is it possible to bore your 5 month old baby? I would have assumed no, but alas I have a bored baby on my hands. And this isn’t because I’ve left her to stare at a white wall (something I found enjoyment in as a child). Oh no…I’m pulling out all the stops: Various toys, excersaucer, swing, balls, I’m dancing for her, going for walks, doing the hokey pokey. What gives? She’s looking at me as if she’s saying “Seen it! What’s new”. I need ideas people!
We hung out with our T-Town lady friends yesterday for some free food, hair clip makings, a scooter ride, and some hang time for our girls.

We got some free breakfast coupons to an English Pub in Old Town Tustin, called Quinns. Our bill was over $30.00…we presented our coupons and presto! Free Breakfast. It was good too. Jennie and I got waffles and Sara got the Breakfast Tostada. All delicious. Not a bad idea…give people free food and then you get free word of mouth advertisement. Probably the best kind of advertisement. Go check it out friends.
Jennie bought a scooter to solve the gas crisis. So Sara and I took it for a spin. When I told Eric he said he was surprised that I went. So was I…I’m terrified of such things. But I didn’t want to look like a wuss so I said “Fun, lets go!” My palms were sweating the whole time.
Then onto hair clips. I know, my daughter has no hair. But one day she will so by then she’ll have a good supply. And literally I think it will take that long. Sara and I have gotten together to work on these twice now and so far we’ve produced 2 1/2. And they’re not amazing, or time consuming. No, no, no. Just a little tricky to manage two babies while working with hot glue. You understand.

Lastly, some photos of the girlies as I like to track their development sided by side. Reminder: They are 3 days apart. Emily’s falling a little behind on height, hair growth, teeth growth, overall coordination – we like to attribute this to the fact that Bailey’s hands are twice her size.
Another fun day with friends.
I left Emily to play on a blanket with some toys while I did the dishes and tidied up the kitchen. She was making some lovely squealing noises so I guess I didn’t turn to check on her for a while. When I finally did, I looked to the blanket and thought “Where’s my baby?”

Naturally she had scooted herself across the living room, and under our coffee table. We’ve got a little explorer on our hands.

Em woke up at 8:30am today. An hour later than usual. A great way to start my day.
She also cut her first tooth. Not quite visible yet, but very sharp to touch.
Since we were on such a roll, I thought we should finish off the day with putting her in the nursery at church, for the first time. She was a pro. I came to check on her, and she was lounging in a swing, fully entertained by all the new faces, sights and sounds.
She’s so good.

We were with Eric’s fam last night to celebrate Corey (our brother-in-law)’s BIRTHDAY.

Mary and Eric made some delicious BURGERS, fruit salad, and an apple crisp for dessert.

And Emily sported a new BEANIE for the festivities. I think she looks like a little Ewok.

The Music Man is my all time favorite musical. I used to watch the Wells Fargo Wagon scene over and over again with my Grandpa Chick, and he would try to pause it just as Ron Howard said “somethin’ special” with that famous lisp, so that his tongue was sticking out and spit was flying. We would giggle hysterically then say “let’s watch it again”.
My mom used to listen to the soundtrack tape in the car. Our challenge was to learn all the words to the opening song. She kept a pad of paper on her dashboard so that she could write down each line, as we figured out what they were saying. My mom and my sister, and I had the whole thing memorized by the end of the summer. Totally quirky family detail, and such a fond memory for me.
When I was in college, my family took a trip to New York and we got to see Music Man on Broadway. Best show I’ve ever seen. Eric McCormack (from Will & Grace) played Harold Hill, and did even better than the original. During the curtain call the entire cast came out a played 76 Trombones. They all actually learned how to play trombones. It was fantastic, I will never forget the performance. To top off that experience, we had front row seats, and sitting in the row behind us was Tommy Tune, the original choreographer. REMINDER: I grew up dancing, so this was very exciting.

All of this is to prove my point that I love this musical. So when I found out that they were presenting the play at the Peppertree Park in Old Town Tustin, I insisted that we go. We joined our friends Brandon, Sara, Jennie (Sara’s sister) and T-Snake (Jennie’s husband). Such a fun way to spend a summer night! Sitting on blankets under the stars (we even saw a falling star – way cool), eating pizza and drinking wine, while obnoxiously quoting lines and singing along to an American Classic. We even made it onto OCRegister.com!

I had to share this story.
My brother-in-law, Darren, bought Camryn (my 4-year-old niece) her very own pink putter, so that she could go ‘golfing with dad’. He took her to Saddleback College’s putting green last week for her to try it out. She looked around, a little confused, then asked “Dad, where’s Tiger”?
Amazing! All she knows of golf is that her dad watches it on TV, and cheers for Tiger. Naturally wherever “golf” takes place, Tiger must be there too.
Too cute.
