Emily is one!
We invited our families over for a delicious Las Golondrinas dinner, cake, and presents. It was a perfect party. Emily had so much fun; she blew out her candle like we had practiced, made a mess of the cake, and loved being the center of attention for a night.

It wasn’t until I took her up to put her to bed that it all sunk in. It was a year ago that we met her for the first time! I remembered how she felt in my arms when she was 7lbs 15 oz, and so undiscovered. Its amazing how it feels like its gone by so fast, yet I feel like I’ve known her forever. I rocked her for a couple minutes while I sang her bedtime song. After all the day’s stimulation she was fast asleep and snoring by the end. I held her close, prayed over her, and wept as I thanked God for this perfect gift and for the honor of being entrusted to care for her. She truly is the most amazing blessing to Eric and me. We could not be more proud of the little girl that she has become.

When Emily woke up this morning, we came down stairs and she saw all the evidence of the previous night’s party, and it was like she wanted to do it all over again. She crawled up into her new chair, wanted me to put her hat on her head, played with her toys, rummaged through the wrapping paper, and even found a piece of her cake that had fallen on the floor – and yes, she ate it.
This past year has brought us more joy than I could have ever imagined. I am so happy that this is just the beginning.
Emily’s BFF turned one. Bailey was the perfect hostess at her Park Day birthday party. She greeted Emily with many of her signature hugs – Brandon and Sara call her an aggressive lover. Emily was near tears but held it together

Sara made Bailey a beautifully decorated, all-natural birthday cake, which she ate ever so delicately and loved. Sara even made one for Emily – she’s so thoughtful. Emily devoured it until we got our arms tangled and it fell on the ground. That was a rough few minutes.
We gave Bailey a bucket and a shovel for her birthday, to kick start her beach toy collection. We took the girls to the beach a few days later to break it in. They played in the sand (aka ate the sand), splashed their toes in the waves, and shared their toys, cups, clothes, etc….Beach days are going to be a regular event this summer. We can hardly wait.

For my mom’s birthday, she took my sister and me to La Costa Spa for a day of pampering. Felt a whole lot like it was my birthday too
We got 80 minute massages (very dangerous! I don’t think I can ever go back to the measly 30 or 50 minutes again), soaked in the hot tub, got a nice base tan, ordered fancy poolside food, and enjoyed some quality girl time.

After the spa she took us shopping at the outlets. Again, “whose birthday?”, you may be asking. All 3 of us got the same dress, just like the good old days growing up.
So much fun. Happy Birthday mom. Thanks for including us in the Celebration of You.
I went on my annual girls trip last weekend. This has felt like a long time coming, because it was the first time that I was away from Emily over night…and this was 3 nights!
It couldn’t have gone any better. Eric and Em got to spend some concentrated quality time together, and I got a break from mommyhood and an excellent time of rest and relaxation with my dearest girl friends.
We spent some time at the park on Saturday, as a part of Eric and Lyle’s family birthday party. We laid out a blanket for Emily, and she sat and watched Eric and me while we threw around the frisbee. Then Eric threw her around for a while and I enjoyed their shared giggles.

Then we played a game of bocce.

Emily preferred the taste of the jack.

Then we took Emily to the play area to go down the slide and on the swings.

This little girl loves to play! It was such a beautiful day, and it was great fun to be outside playing together as a family.
Later, back at the house, we played more bocce, played Apples to Apples, ate some good food and cake, and went in the hot tub. Such a fun day.
